A little trivia for you bridal couples:
It was the accepted practice in Babylon 4,000 years ago that for a month after the wedding, the bride's father would supply his son-in-law with all the mead he could drink. Mead is a honey beer and because their calendar was lunar based, this period was called the honey month .. which we know today as the honeymoon.
Also, if you've ever wondered where bridal couples feeding cake to each other came from... well it was mideval England and while the bride did not feed the groom any cake at all, the practice was the groom taking a pound cake and smashing it into the face of the bride for luck and fertility!
Do you know why the women carry flowers in a wedding? It's because, again, in mideval times people usually took baths only once a year and most of the time it was in May at the beginning of the summer. The men went first followed by the women and then children. Most weddings were in June (the most popular month) because it was only a month AFTER their bath and they carried flowers for the scent and to "tone down" the smell of their body odor.
